Mercedes-Benz Record month for car sales

MERCEDES-BENZ said yesterday that sales in China grew at a record 224 percent last month to 8,500 units in November.

Most of its product line-ups, including the E-Class, C-Class premier sedans and SUV family, achieved overwhelming success this year as the recovering economy encouraged consumers to spend on big money items.

The new generation S-Class also achieved its best monthly sales in November with sales tripled to 2,000 units, reinforcing China's position as its largest market.

The German car maker's total sales for the first 11 months this year expanded by 68 percent to 59,200 vehicles.

Bjoern Hauber, sales and marketing manager of Mercedes-Benz China sales unit, said recently that the overall auto market in China would grow between 10 to 15 percent next year, boosted by the extended government stimulus. Mercedes-Benz will grow faster than the industry average as it added new products and increased dealerships, he said.

Mercedes-Benz launched three luxury sedans, the E-200, E-260 and E-260 coupe, that incorporated green technologies at the Guangzhou auto show last month. They can save at least 0.15 liters of fuel for every 100 kilometers.
