Owners of Chrysler SUVs told to fix snag

CHINA'S quality watchdog has urged Chinese owners of a sport utility vehicle made by Chrysler to send their SUVs to a service center to fix overheating in the gear box.
The oil temperature in the gear box of the Jeep Wrangler model made between 2007 and 2008 may become overheated, and may catch fire under certain conditions, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said in a statement last Friday.
The car maker is in talks with the quality watchdog to recall the SUVs to repair the problem, Chrysler (China) Automobile Sales Co Ltd said in an e-mailed statement yesterday.
The 1,800 SUV owners on the Chinese mainlands are urged to contact local authorized service centers to have their vehicles checked. An alarm system will be installed free of charge in the SUV to alert drivers of possible overheating of the oil in the gear box, the company said.
Chrysler issued a global recall of Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara models made between September 2007 and July 2008 for the same reason in early November.
