Problem forces BMW recall
BMW will recall 232,098 imported and locally produced cars in China from June 18 to fix a faulty engine component, China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said yesterday.
The problem affects 138,534 imported cars made between June 10, 2009 and July 30, 2012, as well as 93,564 China-made ones from November 7, 2009, to June 6, 2013.
All the affected cars from the imported 1 series, 3 series, 5 series, 6 series, 7 series, X1, X3, X5, X6, Z4 to the locally produced 3 series and 5 series are equipped with the N52K, N52T or N55 engines.
The bolts in their variable valve timing system VANOS may loosen or break when the engine is working, leading to an engine malfunction, the company said.
