Proton fails to interest Volkswagen
PROTON, Malaysia's national car maker, said yesterday that Volkswagen AG will not collaborate with it because the German car maker "has other priorities."
Proton said Volkswagen "would be an interesting collaboration partner," but Volkswagen had declined to partner up with Proton.
"Volkswagen confirmed that it currently has other priorities," Proton said.
It will continue to work with other partners such as Mitsubishi and aims to expand domestically and regionally.
Proton has been struggling to find a foreign partner to lift its fortunes but the government has insisted on keeping control of the national corporate icon, making it difficult to seal any partnership.
