Record sales for GM
GENERAL Motors and its joint ventures in China had record sales of 196,004 units in May, driven by strong demand for the Chevrolet-branded vehicles.
Shanghai GM, the United States car maker's joint venture with SAIC Motor Corp, reported a sales increase of 48.7 percent to 83,302 units last month from 2009.
The company said sales of Chevrolets, including the Cruze lower-medium sedan and Epica intermediate sedan, more than doubled while sales of its Cadillac products grew 98.1 percent and sales of Buicks rose 22 percent on an annual basis.
GM's sales in the first five months in China reached 1,032,665 units, a 53.9 percent increase from the first five months of 2009 and a new record for the period.
