Rise in car license plates for bidding
SHANGHAI will auction off more license plates for private vehicles this month after the prices hit a record high in April.
The city will auction 9,300 car license plates on May 19, the most this year and 800 more than last month, the Shanghai International Commodity Auction Co has announced.
Analysts said the higher quota reflects the government's attitude toward price hikes over the past six months.
Last month, the average price for a Shanghai car plate and the lowest successful bid both hit the highest level since the auction began in 2000, at 61,626 yuan (US$9,759) and 61,000 yuan respectively.
