SAIC Targets To Sell 3m Vehicles In 2010

SHANGHAI Automotive Industry Corp said yesterday it aims to accelerate vehicle sales to 3 million units this year.

Of the target, the nation's biggest car maker expects sales of its self-branded vehicles to double to 180,000 units.

As the Chinese partner of General Motors Corp and Volkswagen, SAIC's sales in 2009 expanded by 57 percent to 2.72 million units, the firm said in an statement.

Besides the sales increase goal, SAIC's other top priority is to boost its new energy vehicle portfolio in 2010.

The car maker plans to launch a mild-hybrid Roewe 750 sedan next year, which could save fuel consumption by 20 percent.

It will provide 1,000 green cars, including plug-in hybrid, pure electric cars and fuel cell vehicles, for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.
