SEAT has two cars for China

SPANISH brand SEAT will begin selling its Leon and Ibiza models in China next year, the company's first move into the world's biggest auto market.

The 60-year-old manufacturer will just sell those two models in its initial foray into Chinese markets such as Beijing and Shanghai, James Muir, chairman of SEAT's executive committee, said.

SEAT is the last member of the German Volkswagen Group to join the group's other six brands which have long been sold on Chinese mainland.

Muir said his company had identified a large demand for distinctive Mediterranean-flavored cars among Chinese consumers, and believed that the timing was right to expand into the key market.

All SEAT cars sold in China will be made at the Martorell production plant in Spain and will use Volkswagen's existing distribution network, Muir said.

Muir declined to reveal how many cars SEAT expected to sell in China.
