Toyota make China's biggest recall

TWO Toyota joint ventures have announced the recall of nearly 700,000 cars because of a fault, making it the largest vehicle recall since China enacted a recall policy on October 1, 2004.

Guangzhou Toyota Motor Co and Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co yesterday announced that excessive lubricant in the driver's side window control could cause a malfunction in the electric windows on Camry, Yaris, Vios and Corolla models, Beijing Times reported today.

In extreme cases the default might lead to melting of the inside of the door.

The recalled cars are 384,736 Camry and 22,767 Yaris models made from May 15, 2006 to December 31, 2008, 35,523 Vios cars from February 18, 2008 to December 25, 2008 and 245,288 Carollas from May 17, 2007 to December 25, 2008.
