Toyota recalls 61,459 cars
JAPANESE carmaker Toyota is to pull back 61,459 cars in China over airbag defects, the national quality watchdog General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said.
The recall, due to start on May 8, is to fix a faulty spiral cable that may turn on the airbag warning light and prevent airbags from deploying. The vehicles include 47,636 Reiz sedans made in China between November 16, 2005, and August 10, 2010, and 13,752 Highlander sport-utility vehicles made between May 27, 2009, and August 31, 2010. The remaining 71 cars are Highlanders imported to the country between March 30, 2007, and January 19, 2009.
This recall is part of Toyota’s second-biggest global pull-back announced earlier this week.
