TOYOTA Motor Corp plans to invest US$689 million to set up a research and development center in Changshu, Jiangsu Province.
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (China) Co, which will conduct research on energy-saving and alternative-energy vehicles, is scheduled to start business in the spring of next year.
The facility will cover 2.34 million square meters and have 200 employees initially before expanding the staff size to 1,000.
