Turnaround in auto sales
The three biggest Japanese carmakers finally turned around their annual sales by driving a big rally in September after months of sluggishness.
Toyota, the largest carmaker by sales volume, said yesterday its China sales surged 63 percent to 72,100 units in September Ñ a huge reversal from its 4.2 percent drop in August. Nissan, whose sales exposure to China is the biggest among all Japanese carmakers, said it delivered 117,100 units last month, up 83 percent from a 1-percent gain in August. Honda, whose sales fell 2.5 percent in August, more than doubled sales to 73,990.
