Volkswagen AG VW slows down
VOLKSWAGEN AG, the biggest overseas car maker in China, posted slower sales growth last year as a cooling economy damped demand for new vehicles.
Sales jumped 12.5 percent to 1.02 million vehicles last year, the car maker said in a statement yesterday. The auto maker boosted sales 28 percent to 910,491 a year earlier.
Chinese auto sales fell in three months out of four up to November, as slowing exports and rising job insecurity hurt demand.
The outlook for industry-wide auto sales this year is also "uncertain," Volkswagen China head Winfried Vahland said in the statement.
Sales of Volkswagen brand cars rose 8.2 percent to 844,491. Audi sales jumped 17 percent to 101,996.
The German company makes cars in China through ventures with SAIC Motor Corp and China FAW Group Corp, the country's two largest domestic auto makers.
