BMW engine plant breaks ground

POWER Xinchen, which aims to become China's No.1 independent branded engine maker via in-depth association and learning from BMW group, kicks off the construction of its BMW-licensed N20 engine plant in Mianyang, Sichuan Province last week.

Controlled by BMW's Chinese joint-venture partner Brilliance China Automotive, Power Xinchen is authorized to make N20 turbo-charged engines and related components at the plant while BMW promises to provide training and consulting services in terms of manufacturing process planning, quality control and equipment installation. The first phase of the facility is scheduled to start production in June 2014, and is expected to supply Brilliance's local brands Zhonghua and Jinbei.
