First Zinoro showroom in Shanghai unveiled
ZINORO, a new brand from premium joint venture BMW Brilliance, has come to the frontier of the country’s green mobility revolution following the recent opening of its first branch in Shanghai.
In this pilot city of green car promotions known for hefty subsidies and free car plate incentives, Zinoro launched a showroom on the bustling West Nanjing Road last week, starring the country’s first premium electric sports activity vehicle, Zinoro 1E.
On the same day, thirty Zinoro 1E cars were delivered to Anting Shanghai International Automobile City, a key demonstration zone of electric cars in China, to mark the expansion of its worry-free rental services — a business model Zinoro started in Beijing last year to increase public exposure of eco-friendly mobility.
In retrospect, 2014 ushered in China’s new energy car era — with the standardization of AC charging, the exemption of vehicle tax for buyers of electric cars and plug-in hybrids at the national level, as well as a variety of product launches, including Zinoro 1E. Olaf Kastner, CEO and president of BMW Brilliance, said the company is “very proud to play a role in this historical change.”
Zinoro believes that the key to accelerating this change is to give electric cars more opportunities to speak for themselves, and rental is their best shot to approach potential buyers and dispel their various concerns about this new technology.
The rental period for Zinoro 1E can be as short as one day, which costs only 400 yuan (US$64.5), and as long as three years at a price of 7,400 yuan per month, offering users full flexibility to get to know the car’s performance.
Powered by an electric motor that generates a maximum output of 125kW and torque of 250 Nm, Zinoro 1E can run 150km upon a single charge, which is more than enough to meet most people’s daily needs for commuting and ease their mileage anxiety amid the current scarcity of charging facilities.
In fact, the long-term rental package of Zinoro 1E includes further reassurance like free maintenance, road rescue, and private charging support that comes in the form of a wall-mounted charging box.
The convenient and cost-effective solutions offered by Zinoro 1E’s long-term rental plan have attracted not only individuals, but also quite a few prestigious fleet customers, like the Beijing Guoan Football Club and the German School.
Twenty Zinoro 1E cars now serve for diplomatic missions in the capital, making up the first purely electric fleet of such in China.
“We don’t just provide them with cars. We also work with them to promote public awareness of e-mobility,” said Kastner.
Last November, the Beijing Guoan Football Club called up on its fans to all go “green” with Zinoro; In October, Zinoro 1E took center stage with fashion icons to set an example that the eco-friendly is the new chic; and one month before that, a Zinoro Club was launched as a social platform for green lifestyle lovers.
Looking forward, BMW Brilliance will continue to reinforce its commitment to e-mobility, with more than 500 people dedicated to this cause in a research and development center in Shenyang, where the next Zinoro car model is already beginning to take shape, Kastner said.
