GM sales down
GENERAL Motors and its joint ventures sold 173,398 vehicles in the Chinese mainland last month, down 1.8 percent from a year earlier due to industry-wide sluggish commercial vehicle sales that impacted its SAIC-GM-Wuling and FAW-GM joint ventures.
Its flagship passenger car venture Shanghai GM boosted sales by 14.4 percent on an annual basis to 91,818 units last month with strong demand for Chevrolet and Cadillac models.
SAIC-GM-Wuling's July sales were 77,944 units, compared to 90,658 units in July 2010. FAW-GM's domestic sales were 3,353 units, compared to 5,560 units during the same month last year. For the first seven months as a whole, GM and its joint ventures sold a record 1,446,901 vehicles in the Chinese mainland, which was up 4.4 percent from the same period last year.
