OnStar boosts user base
SHANGHAI OnStar Telematics Co Ltd announced its subscriber calls hit a record of more than one million in China last month.
Since the official launch in 2009, OnStar has 300,000 registered users in China, with an independent call center in Shanghai.
OnStar, the vehicle safety division of General Motors, provides 14 services in China, including automatic crash response, emergency services and automatic airbag deployment response.
In May, Shanghai OnStar handled 3.7 million navigation requests, more than 100,000 real-time on-demand vehicle diagnostics checks and more than one million vehicle diagnosis reports.
New Jaguar executives
British premier car brand Jaguar and Land Rover has named Anthony Bradbury as executive vice president of Jaguar China and Paul Hu as executive vice president of Land Rover China.
The appointments to strengthen local management come as Jaguar Land Rover accelerate expansion in China to compete with Maserati. From January to May, Jaguar's sales increased 45 percent to 1,620 units in China while Land Rover reported a 47 percent gain to 13,568 units.
Before the appointments, Bradbury was marketing director for Land Rover UK while Hu served as marketing director of Volkswagen China.
VW auto finance
Shanghai Volkswagen Sales Co Ltd has signed an agreement with SAIC Finance Co Ltd to launch auto financing in China. SAIC Finance will offer auto loans to both individual auto buyers and SVW's dealers in China, according to SVW.
The partnership aims to further increase SVW's vehicle sales in a highly competitive market and enable SAIC Finance to gain more market share in consumer credit business.
BYD cars to Singapore
BYD Co may become the supplier of new-energy vehicles for Singapore transit.
BYD has recently signed a memorandum of understanding with metro operator SMRT to cooperate on supply of new energy vehicles.
The companies are in discussion to set up a joint venture to sell electric cars, including the long-distance electric taxi e6 and electric buses, for the Singapore market.
Meanwhile, BYD will also supply three electric buses and two charging stations to the city of Frankfurt, Germany, in the first quarter of next year, the company said in a statement.
More Peugeot imports
French car maker PSA Peugeot Citroen aims to double China sales of imported Peugeot vehicles to 3,000 units this year, according to Jean Jacques Etchart, general manager of Peugeot China (Imported Cars).
The sales would be comprised mainly of the Peugeot 3008 and 308 series with average monthly sales estimated at 150 units, he said.
Compared with the strong sales of rivals including Mercedes-Benz and BMW, Etchart attributed the small market share of imported Peugeots to limited offerings in China.
Peugoet's Chinese joint venture will be mainly responsible for the distribution of imported Peugeot models in the future.
Great Wall of Bulgaria
Great Wall Motor Co may start production in its plant in Bulgaria by the end of this year, according to a statement from the company. The plant has a planned capacity of 50,000 units, the statement said.
