Shanghai GM: leading lineup to shine at Shanghai auto show

Shanghai GM is out in full force for the Shanghai Auto Show 2015 under the theme of “lead the future through innovation, drive to green”, with up to 43 car models from Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac making up its strongest line-up in the show’s history.

Leading the pack are the Buick Avenir concept car on its China premiere together with the brand’s latest strategic model Verano, the Chevrolet-FNR concept car on its global debut, and the Cadillac CT6 first presented in Asia Pacific.

At the stand of Buick Verano, the brand’s new-generation sports sedan for a new generation of elites, is on its global debut. As an accomplishment of combining Buick’s global resources for design, the car represents Buick’s ambition to make further inroads in the mid-size sedan segment with appealing dynamics.

Taking a closer look at the Verano, one sees the reflection of the flagship sedan Avenir, which means “future” in French.

They are both embodiment of Buick design, which is about effortless beauty and presence without pretense”, and features a modern take on classic Buick elements. And they are both designed by a global team of Buick, with passengers’ well-being and technology integration in mind.

The Avenir’s proportion is made distinctive by its long hood, wheels-at-the-corners stance and a sloping, rear deck, a design that pays homage to historical models like the Riviera, which is also one of the inspirations for Verano.

Yet, the new grill on the Avenir, which is a modern rendering of the Buick signature that the landmark 195 Wildcat II concept bears, breaks free of convention and shows technological progressiveness.

It features a large opening accented by a return to the three-color — red, silver and blue — Buick tri-shield insignia, accented by wing-shaped elements. The grille is flanked by bold headlamps featuring full LED lighting.

Inside the cabin, layered and floating elements such as the center console enhance the perception of lightness, efficiency and dynamism while rich and premium materials together with warm colors bring out the soothing effect of the interior environment.

Avenir’s device-integration technologies don’t just play out within the cabin. Designers are pushing for home integration through leveraging technologies already available or coming soon in smartphones and streamlining them.

Another eye-catching concept car is Chevrolet-FNR, with the initials standing for Find New Roads.

It is an electric car that previews future eco-friendly travelling, with autonomous driving, eyeball control, gesture control, wireless charging all combined as a new definition of human-car interaction.

It is designed by Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center based in Shanghai, which keeps its finger on the pulse of the smart city in the connected age, and the young people living there craving for a new way of mobility.

In fact, the stand of Chevrolet is a show for the young digital generation, with interaction via the social network WeChat, 4D light show, and 7 screen interactive display making a high-tech fantasy.

The star-studded line-up also include the restyled Malibu with a more muscular and sexy figure, as well as the Bolt EV concept car showing the practical side of an electrified Chevrolet, being appealing, fun-to-drive, and affordable.

At the stand of Cadillac, All-new CT6 premium luxury sedan initiates Cadillac’s venture into China’s prestige luxury segment.

Now as the top-of-the-range model of Cadillac, CT6 represents a new approach to premium luxury.

Built with an aluminum-intensive architecture that incorporates 11 different materials, it features one of the industry’s most advanced rigid, lightweight automotive body structures, a foundation for it to deliver agility, dynamic performance, and efficiency previously unseen in large luxury cars.

It is a truly engaging car for drivers. Its chassis systems, which provide active-on-demand all-wheel drive, active rear steering and Magnetic Ride Control including, make every wheel drive and every wheel steer.

Its power options is led by an all-new 3.0L V6 Twin Turbo engine, which offers an estimated 400 horsepower (298 kW) and 400 lb-ft of torque (543 Nm), as most power-dense V-6 engines in the segment.
