Strong Benz sales

PREMIUM luxury car producer Mercedes-Benz said China sales grew 61 percent year on year in February, driven by strong demand for its flagship S-Class flagship sedans as well as locally-produced E-Class and C-Class sedans.

The German carmaker sold a combined 20,250 units of its Mercedes-Benz, smart, AMG and Maybach vehicles in China last month. Total sales in the first two months reached 35,640 units.

"We are confident that our further enhanced product portfolio will support our steady growth momentum in the China market as Mercedes-Benz marches ahead in 2012," said Klaus Maier, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz (China) Ltd. The S-Class reinforced China's position as its largest market in the world in February with record monthly sales of 7,030 units, up 213 percent year on year. The locally-produced E-Class and C-Class sedans posted combined sales of 7,390 units in February.
