US challenges Chinese duties
THE US government has requested dispute settlement consultations at the World Trade Organization on China's imposition of automobiles duties, the US Trade Representative Ron Kirk announced on July 5.
The request aims to eliminate China's imposition of anti-dumping and countervailing duties on more than US$3 billion in exports of US automobiles.
In December last year, China levied both anti-dumping and countervailing duties on imports of US sedans and SUVs with an engine capacity of 2.5 liters or larger, which involved over 80 percent US car exports to China.
