Volkswagen sales jump 14.6% in China
VOLKSWAGEN AG reported auto sales on the Chinese mainland increased 14.6 percent to a record high 1.69 million units for the first nine months of this year. Sales of VW branded vehicles rose 11 percent to 1.29 million units on strong demand for new models such as the new Volkswagen Passat, which sold 45,000 units since its launch in April. Sales of Audi increased to 226,000 units during the first three quarters, surpassing full year sales of 2010. The German carmaker earlier announced it would invest 14 billion euros (US$19.34 billion) in China from 2012 to 2016 to support its growth in China and cash in on development of new energy vehicles.
