7 Days eye network expansion

NEW York-listed 7 Days Group Holdings Ltd, operator of China's second-largest budget hotel chain, yesterday said it plans to increase its portfolio in the country by at least fourfold within five years amid robust demand.

The Guangzhou-based hotelier, which now operates 364 hotels in more than 50 cities across the country, aims to expand its network to between 1,500 and 1,800 hotels nationwide in the next five years, said Alex Zheng, chief executive officer of 7 Days.

To sharpen its competitive edge, the firm unveiled yesterday a campaign to offer more attractive room rates at its 26 hotels in Shanghai from April 26 by allowing guests to decide whether they would like to pay for room items such as dental kits, slippers, bottled water, among others. However, guests needing such items can still purchase them at 7 Days hotels.

Under the company's plan, the campaign will extend to all 7 Days hotels nationwide by the end of May.
