ASIA Pacific will surpass North America in e-commerce spending
The e-commerce expenditure of the Asia-Pacific region, with China taking the leading role, will surpass North America this year to become the world's biggest e-commerce market, FedEx Express said.
The business to customer e-commerce expenditure will reach US$500 billion this year and the number will be over US$1 trillion by 2017, Fedex Express senior officials told a global webcast meeting in Shanghai.
Fedex will keep investing in China and other fast-growing nations, said Michael Ducker, chief operating officer for FedEx Express.
Ducker said the delivery firm plans to expand in the so-called MINT countries of Mexico, Indonesia, Nigeria and Turkey. The company is also eyeing strengthening its presence in Columbia, Vietnam, Egypt and South Africa.
Meanwhile, FedEx is offering same day service on export samples and advertising goods from Shanghai's Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone. Fedex Express said parcels from the zone sent before 4pm can be placed on an overseas flight that day at Pudong International Airport.
