Appliance shares climb after subsidy list released

MOST domestic home appliance makers' shares ended higher yesterday after the Ministry of Finance released partial details on its plan to subsidize the purchase of energy-saving home appliances.

A total of 27 air conditioner makers and 15 manufacturers of energy-saving LCD television sets have been listed for the subsidy, designed to thrust demand for the appliances after last year's old-for-new program ended, the ministry said on Monday.

The subsidy list of manufacturers of energy-saving refrigerators, washing machines and electric water heaters will be released soon.

Subsidies for air conditioners and LCD TV sets started on June 1 and for other categories will begin on July 1.

Altogether 26.5 billion yuan (US$4.2 billion) will be allocated for all of the appliances.

Guangdong Vanward New Electric Co advanced 4.46 percent to 18.72 yuan on the news in yesterday's stock trading in Shanghai, while Qingdao Haier Co rose 1.63 percent to 11.83 yuan.
