Authority probes price frauds of 9 retailers

NINE retailers, including the Landmark Department Store in Shanghai, a Parkson store in Beijing and a Gome outlet in Wuhan, are facing charges of price frauds, according to China's top planning authority.

The National Development and Reform Commission said on its website today that the retailers were cheating customers with "fictional" prices and hiding terms and conditions of their promotions.

The commission said it has ordered local authorities to investigate their misconducts. The offenders may face a fine of up to 500,000 yuan if found guilty.

A pair of woman's shoes originally priced 468 yuan in Shanghai Landmark Department Store were tagged 768 yuan and sold at 576 yuan during a sales event, according to the commission.

A Parkson Department Store in Beijing and the Central Emporium in Nanjing were also found to fake prices before selling goods at discount.

A Gome outlet in Wuhan was found to coax customers into buying coupons without revealing limited range of application.
