Bailian eyes innovation

BAILIAN Group said yesterday that it plans to build an Internet science and innovation center in cooperation with technical partner IBM as a way to maximize the opportunities created by the opening of Shanghai Disneyland.
The state-owned retailer is already a partner of Disney and will use the new center to improve its brand awareness and boost revenue, industry insiders said.
Despite being the largest retail chain in Shanghai, with assets of 80 billion yuan (US$12.3 billion), Bailian is facing increased competition from online rivals like Taobao and JD.com.
