Best Buy unveils new strategy

BEST Buy Co said it will introduce the Best Buy Mobile brand in the Chinese market as it sees rising demand for smartphones and tablets as well as open 14 outlets inside Five Star Electronics stores in Nanjing to sell the devices.

US-based Best Buy, the world's largest consumer electronics retailer, also plans to open independent retail outlets nationwide and online stores to sell the devices.

"Best Buy hopes to provide services for Chinese consumers that best suit their needs and our staff will help consumers to choose the most suitable carrier and handset," said Stephen Mackarel, leader of Best Buy Mobile China project.

The new strategy signals the retailer's hopes to keep its brand name among domestic consumers after it closed all nine Best Buy branded stores in China last year, observers said.

"Best Buy hopes to test the waters by selling cell phones and accessories," said Luo Renxiao, a retail sector observer.
