Carrefour grooms local staff for expansion
FRENCH retail giant Carrefour aims to build a large talent pool to facilitate its expansion in China.
Pierre Bertholat, vice president of Carrefour China, said yesterday that the company will improve the performance of its Chinese stores and expand to the country's third- and fourth-tier cities through staff localization and training.
"Nearly 96 percent of our employees are Chinese and about 95 percent of our store managers are promoted from entry-level positions," Bertholat said.
Carrefour provided 170,000 hours of training to its Shanghai employees last year and awarded promotion letters to 800 of them yesterday, including more than 40 newly appointed mid-level and high-level managers.
