Chinese firms reap US$62b in outsourcing

Chinese contractors generated over US$62 billion through international service outsourcing in 2013, up 42.2 percent year on year.

The United States contributed US$11.75 billion and the European Union US$7.14 billion in international service outsourcing last year, according to data from the Commercial and Trade Services Department at the Ministry of Commerce.

Information technology outsourcing brought in US$31.17 billion, up 36.8 percent; business process US$9.72 billion, up 25.8 percent; and knowledge process US$21.45 billion, up 60.8 percent.

China’s service outsourcing has grown steadily in recent years, and the number of employees in the sector increased by 1 million to 5.36 million in 2013, with 24,818 companies engaged in the business.
