Consumers not swayed by retailers price cuts

CONSUMERS seemed to have learnt their lesson and are not swayed by another round of price cutting launched by domestic retailers and online shopping sites.

Suning, China's largest home appliance retailer, said that products at its offline outlets and Yigou online shopping portal will carry the same prices from this weekend to offer shopping convenience for consumers.

51Buy.com, the online shopping arm under China's largest Internet company Tencent, also said it's offering discounts for general merchandise and consumer electronics.

Other online vendors, including Dangdang and Amazon.cn, have also promised cash vouchers for shoppers.

But online shoppers said they were confused by the price wars which did not provide actual discounts.

"They're promising all kinds of sales campaigns but it's hard to compare the actual discounts because the original prices also vary from different sites," said one microblog user surnamed Wu.

Last year, major online shopping sites launched several rounds of price wars with each claiming their prices were lower.
