Cool subsidies
CHINA will continue subsidies on energy-efficient air-conditioners through May 31, 2011, and is studying to expand the package to variable frequency air conditioners, the Ministry of Finance said on its Website yesterday.
Subsidies between 150 yuan (US$22) and 250 yuan will be given for purchasing National I and National II air-conditioners.
The program first came into effect on June 1, 2009, and played a vital role to stimulate domestic consumption, the ministry said. It estimated that if all air-conditioners were to be replaced by energy-saving ones within five years, it could cut power use by 45 billion kilowatt-hours and carbon emissions by 45 million tons annually.
