Ctrip’s net profit rises 92%

The net profit of Ctrip International Ltd, a Chinese online travel booking company, surged 92 percent in the third quarter as sales of travel packages and hotel bookings boomed.

The company posted a net profit of 373 million yuan (US$61 million), up from 193.8 million yuan a year ago, the company said in a stock exchange filing yesterday. Its sales in the three months ended on September 30 jumped 34 percent to 1.64 billion yuan.

Packaged tours contributed 320 million yuan to net income during the three months, a 43 percent jump from a year ago due to a rise in leisure travel demand.

The rise in sales was driven by a 40 percent surge in hotel reservations and a 26 percent jump in air ticket bookings.

Ctrip said mobile devices provided 100 million yuan to overall sales in the quarter.
