Former auditor faces police queries

A recently retired top auditor at scandal-hit China Resources Holdings Co is said to be questioned by police as part of a months-long investigation into suspected corruption in the state-owned enterprise.

Huang Daoguo, CR’s former audit director who retired this month, was believed to have illegally obtained a state-issued audit report and helped the group’s already sacked chairman, Song Lin, cover up irregularities, the Economic Information Daily reported yesterday.

The police is investigating Huang on suspicion of violating state secrecy laws, the paper said.

In 2012, Huang obtained an unreleased National Audit Office report indicating corruption in CR’s acquisition of a coal mine in Shanxi Province, and handed the report to Song, the newspaper said.

Song then ordered senior executives of the group to “eliminate the hidden threats” by making public announcements and working through various connections, the report said.

Song was replaced in April this year after China’s top disciplinary body said he was suspected of serious violations in discipline and law.

In July last year, Wang Wenzhi, a reporter of the daily, accused Song and other executives of suspected graft and dereliction of duty in overpaying 7.9 billion yuan (US$1.3 billion) for coal mines in the province, causing the loss of state assets.

Song denied the allegation. Wang then made a second allegation in April this year that Song took bribes and kept a mistress.

Other former senior officials of CR, including Vice Chairman Wang Shuaiting, head of the coordination office Zhang Chun and CEO of CR Capital Wu Ding, were also reported to be investigated over corruption allegations.
