'Golden' hotel to expand village
HELICOPTERS flying tourists around a gold decorated hotel is just one of the glittering scenes to expect in Huaxi Village once China's richest village succeeds in its drive to boost its economic growth with tourism.
The five-star hotel plan is the latest development announced by the village-run Huaxi Group, parent of Shenzhen-listed Jiangsu Huaxicun Co, after it mooted an aviation company earlier this year to help diversify its economy away from steel.
Construction on the 328-meter-high hotel, which would be the 8th highest building in China and the 15th highest in the world when completed, will start in October. Its total cost is estimated at 3 billion yuan (US$463.5 million), a public relations official surnamed Zhu told Shanghai Daily yesterday.
The hotel will host five clubs, each based on the natural elements of metal, wood, water, fire and earth.
A 300-million-yuan gold bull, weighing one ton, will be placed inside the gold club with chopsticks and dishes all made from gold.
For the 61st floor of the 74-floor building a bird park and a swimming pool area is planned, while a 2,000-square-meter shopping area on the second floor will dazzle shoppers.
"The hotel is part of our efforts to lure more tourists to drive the modern service industry of Huaxi Village. Service industry profits contribute about 40 percent to the village's total profit at present, while our target is 50 percent," Zhu said.
Last year, more than 2.5 million tourists visited the village and generated between 200 million yuan to 300 million yuan in revenue, compared with the village's total revenue of 50 billion yuan, according to Zhu.
