Gome and Alibaba in online sales link-up
GOME, China's second largest home appliance retailer, says it has teamed up with Alibaba's consumer shopping site Tmall to boost Internet sales.
It will bring consumer electronic products to Tmall's website and expects to benefit from Tmall's huge number of customers.
At the end of last year, Gome began merging its two online shopping arms, Gome Online and Coo8.com.
Through its collaboration with Tmall, Gome will hope to catch up with rival Suning, said market watchers.
Suning said last year it's e-commerce sales more than doubled to 15.2 billion yuan (US$2.5b) after it stepped up marketing efforts.
Tmall has attracted more than 80 external B2C vendors to open official stores on its platform, as it seeks to expand its product categories.
Last year, Tmall and Alibaba's C2C marketplace Taobao together recorded sales of 1 trillion yuan.
