HK Disney offers special festival deals

Hong Kong Disneyland expects more mainland visitors next month with promotions during Spring Festival, a senior official with the theme park said.

Derek Wong, director of marketing (China business) at Hong Kong Disneyland, said he expected more mainland visitors will be attracted by new entertainment items and discounts offered during the traditional Chinese festival. It may help to raise the proportion of mainland visitors to half of the total from the current one-third.

He also said mainland visitors from cities other than Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou may grow faster in the coming years as the park gained more fame in smaller cities.

The park has invited singer Kelly Chen to become its new image ambassador and will start a 24-day Spring Festival promotion from February 4.

Separately, the consumer products division of Disney Corp has launched its official B2C online store on to tap online shopping.

The flagship store on Taobao will be run by local Disney licensee Midway Enterprises Ltd and will cover around 5,000 kinds of licensed products, some of them exclusively sold on Taobao.
