Hitting musical notes
SUNING Appliance Co yesterday opened its first musical instrument outlet, MusicVox, in Shanghai's Pudong New Area and expects annual sales of 50 million yuan (US$7.4 million) in the first year.
Another nine outlets are in the pipeline.
MusicVox is a sub-brand of Japan's Laox, which Suning bought into a year earlier. About 20 percent of the products were imported from Japan. The 700-square-meter MusicVox is the largest outlet for instruments used in light music in Shanghai. A similar store in the home market had sales of up to 30 million yuan.
Also yesterday, Suning launched Blackberry handsets in its outlets in 22 major cities. Suning signed an agreement with RIM to sell Blackberry as an exclusive retailer.
