Insurance firms estimate MH370 compensation will exceed 22m yuan

MAJOR domestic insurance companies expect to pay more than 22 million yuan (US$3.55 million) to the victims' families of Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 after authorities said they had concluded the plane crashed into a remote area of the Indian Ocean.

China Ping An Insurance Group has already paid 3.7 million yuan to 17 policy holders and expects total compensation to exceed 10 million yuan when all assessment is done, the company said in a statement.

China Pacific Insurance Company said it will pay 4 million yuan to 12 policy holders.

China Life Insurance Co said it expects to make 9 million yuan in payments to 32 policy holders, of which 4.2 million yuan has already been paid to the families.
