Ireland expecting closer ties
Closer business ties are expected between Ireland and China, Eamon Gilmore, the Irish deputy prime minister said in Shanghai yesterday.
“One of the potential areas is the access of Irish beef to China,” Gilmore said, something he had discussed with Chinese authorities during his two-day visit to the country, which ended yesterday.
Besides the food sector, Gilmore said Ireland is also strong in financial services, energy, pharmaceutical and life-science sectors that offer good investment opportunities for Chinese investors.
Ireland simplified the visa application process this year to attract more Chinese tourists.
“The business relationship between Ireland and China is good and is growing,” Gilmore said, noting that Irish exports to China had doubled in the past three years.
