JD.com Q4 revenue increases
JD.COM, China’s second-biggest e-commerce company, said yesterday that its gross merchandise volume jumped 69 percent in the fourth quarter to 145.3 billion yuan (US$22.2 billion) thanks to its increasing efforts to drive sales by partnering with domestic and foreign brands.
Its net loss ballooned to 7.6 billion yuan from a 500 million yuan loss in the same period a year ago, which it blamed on impairment charges on its Paipai.com business.
Revenue rose 57 percent from the same period a year ago in the quarter ending on December 31 to 54.6 billion yuan, according to a stock exchange filing.
It said 61.4 percent of orders were coming from mobile devices or smartphones, more than triple the number a year earlier.
JD.com had about 99,000 merchants in its online market at the end of December, and income related to its services for third-party vendors more than doubled to 4.7 billion yuan.
