Jewelry fair biggest in event history
MORE than 1,300 exhibitors from 22 countries and regions will participate in Jewelry Shanghai 2015, making it the largest in the event’s history.
The fair will host almost 2,700 booths spread over nearly 60,000 square meters of space, the Gems and Jewelry Trade Association of China said.
The five-day exhibition, which opens today, will be held at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center.
Chinese demand for gold jumped nearly 30 percent to 1,190 tons in 2013 to propel the country past India to become the world’s largest consumer of gold, according to Gems and Jewelry Center at the Ministry of Land and Resources. China is also the biggest consumer of platinum and jade, it added.
The China Business Intelligence Network expects jewelry sales in China to grow by up to 15 percent annually in the coming five years.
