L’Oreal expands factory

International cosmetics group L’Oreal has completed a 200 million yuan (US$32 million) expansion of its production facility in Hubei Province as it taps growing demand in China’s personal care market.

The 70,000-square-meter Yichang Tianmei plant is now the cosmetics giant’s largest manufacturing facility in Asia, the French company said in a statement yesterday.

The Hubei plant has an annual capacity of 250 million units of make-up products.

China is the third-biggest market for L’Oreal behind the US and France as the company expands in the world’s second-largest economy.

L’Oreal’s other factory in China is in Suzhou in Jiangsu Province.

Earlier this year, L’Oreal agreed to buy Chinese skincare company Magic Holdings International for US$840 million.
