Luxury brands turn to airports and railway stations

MORE luxury brands are looking to Shanghai's airports and railway stations as "pilot camps" for expansion.
Shanghai Airport Authority officials announced yesterday that Hongqiao International Airport is updating its commercial space and has introduced brands like Shanghai Tang and Bally while Burberry and Salvatore Ferragamo will launch soon.
Similarly, the Shanghai Railway Bureau, in coordination with Yicheng Management Co Ltd, a firm specializing in Italian goods, introduced 26 Italian retail stores at Shanghai Hongqiao High-Speed Railway Station.
The stores are feature an "Italian Town" logo and are expected to provide a different shopping experience for people traveling by train.
"It is a pilot scheme to expand our commercial amenities from central business areas to the railway," said Italian Consul General in Shanghai Vincenzo De Luca. "Based on foreign experiences, Chinese people love to make purchases at airports and railway stations... If it is successful, we will replicate it elsewhere in China."
The 26 stores offer a wide range of products including clothes, shoes, bags, accessories, cosmetics and food.
