Mainland executives travel most, says survey
EXECUTIVES from the Chinese mainland were the most frequent travelers in the Asia-Pacific region in the first half of this year, making 17 trips on average, up from nine during the same period a year earlier, a survey showed yesterday.
The increase was mainly due to a surge in domestic trips during the January-June period, which saw 14 trips completed on average by Chinese mainland travelers, hotel operator Accor said in its latest Asia-Pacific Business Traveler Research. Accor interviewed more than 2,500 people from nine countries and regions who made business trips in the first six months of this year to compile the information.
"Chinese mainland business travelers were the most frequently on the road domestically in the Asia-Pacific region, with half of them saying a change in job title required them to travel more," said Evan Lewis, vice president of communications of Accor Asia-Pacific. "For the second half, they are planning to take an average 16 business trips, almost equivalent to that in the first half."
For overseas trips, Hong Kong remained the most popular destination for Chinese mainland business travelers, followed by Singapore and Thailand, according to the survey.
Regionally, Singapore was the most popular business travel destination, making the top 3 list for travelers from all the key markets covered by the survey.
In terms of accommodation, the survey found hotel loyalty programs were the most influential factor when Chinese mainland travelers decide where to stay.
