Mengniu drops to 3-year low, its website hacked

MENGNIU Dairy Co Ltd remained weak on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange today. It opened 4 percent lower this morning at HK$19.20 as the public reacted angrily to the news of its contaminated milk.
The falling price of Mengniu shares followed Wednesday's plunge of 24 percent, which sent the stock to its lowest level since September 2008.
A sample of Mengniu's dairy product was found containing an excessive level of cancer-causing aflatoxin M1. It is the latest of a string of food safety scandals since melamine-tainted milk killed six children in 2008.
Yesterday evening, Mengniu's corporate website was hacked and its homepage showed a message from a group named "Angry Simple International Infosec Team" which called the company "a disgrace to our nation."
The message was removed from Mengniu's homepage after midnight.
