Metro to expand
METRO AG, the world's third-largest retailer, is accelerating expansion in China to tap domestic consumption.
The first Media Markt will open on November 17 on Huaihai Road, with an additional 100 stores in China in the pipeline by 2015. The firm eyes a 10 percent share of China's electronics consumer market without giving a time-frame, Metro said yesterday.
The announcement came just two days after Metro Cash & Carry, a subsidiary of Metro AG, said it will open 11 to 15 stores across the nation annually from 2011.
