Metro to integrate online-offline businesses at Pudong concept store

METRO Cash & Carry China said today it will set up logistic facilities in its first new concept store in Pudong New Area to better incorporate online and offline businesses.

The new section, with delivery and package functions, is part of Metro’s plan to bring together Metro’s e-commerce and in-store sales, said Jeroen de Groot, President of Metro China.

He said the company is also planning to work with a “large domestic e-commerce platform” to expand Metro’s business-to-consumer sales channel but he declined to give details as negotiations are still under way.

The new e-commerce operation is expected to start November, de Groot added.

The comments were made as the wholesaler unveiled its first new concept Cash & Carry store in Pudong New Area today to enhance consumer interaction.

A cafe area with internet connection was created and a welfare and gifting show room was set up to offer customized services for corporate customers.
