New Hope Dairy items disappoint FDA
CHINA’S Food and Drug Administration said five dairy products of Sichuan-based New Hope Dairy Co have quality problems that analysts suspect could be due to the milk company’s rapid expansion in recent years.
The acidity level in the five milk products made by New Hope Dairy’s subsidiaries did not meet standards, according to the FDA statement. The five pure milk products were all made between October and December.
The dairy maker could not be reached for comment yesterday.
“New Hope Dairy Co is a regional company, and it’s been eager to expand its market share nationwide. This may weaken its quality control system,” Song Liang, a dairy industry analyst with market research firm China Commercial Distribution Promotion Center, was quoted by the 21st Century Business Herald as saying.
“It’s uncertain whether the quality control system will be stable when expansion takes place rapidly,” Song pointed out.
The FDA released a list of substandard dairy products consisting of 56 items earlier this week. It inspected a total of 6,697 batches made by 588 companies in 30 provincial areas earlier this year.
The FDA found that acidity level was too low in the milk products made by New Hope Dairy’s affiliates which are located across the country, including Chongqing and provinces of Yunnan, Shandong, Zhejiang and Anhui.
