New LCD plant

CHINA'S top appliance maker TCL on Saturday started building an 8.5-generation LCD factory in Shenzhen to meet rising demand for flat-screen TVs. Equal partners TCL and Shenchao Technology Investment Co invest 24.5 billion yuan (US$3.6 billion) in the 600,000 square meter plant.

It has a full capacity to produce 14 million LCD panels annually with an estimated output value of 16.9 billion yuan. Its initial phase is expected to be put into operation in August, and mass production will begin at the end of 2011. The second phase will start mass production one year later.
