Online ad income beats TV’s
ADVERTISING revenue of online media surpassed that of television media for the first time last year in Shanghai, the city’s market watchdog said yesterday.
The city’s online media’s advertising revenue rose 18.8 percent from a year earlier to 7.18 billion yuan (US$1.1 billion) last year, ahead of the 5.18 billion yuan in advertising revenue for the television media, the Shanghai Industrial and Commercial Administrative Bureau said.
Youku Tudou Inc came out tops with advertising revenue of 4.8 billion yuan in the online media.
The advertising revenue of television, radio, newspaper and magazine was nearly 7.54 billion yuan last year, down 9.2 percent from 2014.
Shanghai’s overall advertising revenue increased 1.8 percent from 2014 to 168 billion yuan last year.
